Escorts in Rio: the city hides nothing, and the advert hides everything
Rio hides nothing, and that is the part that misleads people. Selling sex has never been a crime in Brazil: there is no article of the Penal Code that criminalises an adult for being paid. Visitors read that as general permission and conclude that if it is legal it must be organised. It is the opposite. It is legal precisely because nobody organises it: Articles 227 to 231 criminalise inducing, facilitating, keeping premises and profiting from another person's prostitution. There is no register, no licence and no inspection, because there is nothing to inspect.
So the advert is the only information available, and the advert answers for nothing. The number that matters is not the price. It is the share of profiles with nobody behind them: the same gallery on four sites, the same WhatsApp number under three names, the same twelve photographs taken six years ago in another country. The evening rarely ends badly in a dramatic way. It ends badly in silence - you cross the city, a door opens, and it is not the woman from the pictures.
Why the Zona Sul is not safer, only more visible
Copacabana, Ipanema and Lapa hold almost everything a visitor will find, and almost every bad story he will hear afterwards. Not because they are dangerous neighbourhoods. Because they are where strangers meet each other, late, with alcohol involved and nobody present who knows both parties. Visible and checked are different words, and the distance between them is the whole subject of this site.
Vila Mimosa, at Praça Onze, is the opposite: it is the city's known zone, it has worked for decades, and everybody knows where it is. Knowing where it is tells you nothing about who is there tonight.
The forty minutes that decide the evening
Men who have good evenings in Rio almost all do the same thing: they meet at a bar first. Forty minutes at Bar Astor or Canastra before anything else. It is not a courtesy. It is the cheapest test there is - at a bar you know within ten minutes whether the evening is going anywhere, and you can leave without drama if it is not. Inside a flat you could not locate again, you cannot.
What "verified" means here
Verified here means one thing, and it is the thing that goes wrong most: a face and body video review, watched by a person, matched against the gallery, before the profile went live. It is not a health certificate and it does not make an evening good, which is still your part. It removes the failure that starts almost every bad story: the woman at the door was never the woman in the photographs.
The rest is Rio. Be on time, settle the practical once and never again, and treat her like someone you want to see again. In this city you get remarkably far simply by not being an idiot.
